Allen F. Hauss, 79, of Maple Shade, New Jersey, passed away on December 10, 2019 at his home surrounded by his adoring family.

Allen was born in Philadelphia to Ruth and Frank Hauss on January 18, 1940, and grew up in Audubon, NJ.  He was a graduate of Audubon High School and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University Camden, Class of 1962.  He also earned his post graduate degrees from Rutgers Camden and New Brunswick.   Allen's fondest college memories were of his times spent as a member of the Kappa Sigma Upsilon fraternity where he made life long friends that have celebrated every part of life together from the moment they met until the very last drink!

Allen began his professional career teaching sixth grade in Collingswood New Jersey.  He loved teaching history, especially ancient Egyptian history, and always finished the unit by showing the film Valley of the Kings .  He went on to become assistant Dean of Students and college center director at Rutgers Camden. He loved interacting with the student body and the amazing faculty, many of whom became close friends.

Allen spent the rest of his career dedicated to the field of public education.  He spent 33 years working for the Cherry Hill school district as an educator, librarian, and director of technology.  He was an innovator in bringing cable television and computer technology to the school system.   During his many years at Cherry Hill H.S. West, he formed some of his closest friendships with special people who joined him in his office each day for lively discussions on many topics - the best local bakery, film history, music of every genre, and the newest and best in current technology.  No one bought a new television, camera, or computer without discussing it with Allen first.  After retiring from Cherry Hill, Allen crossed the bridge and became director of technology for the Upper Merion school district where he once again formed amazing friendships.  He enjoyed everything about his job except driving the Schuylkill Expressway twice a day.

Allen also served for six years in the United States Coast Guard Reserves where he was a radio man and of course established movie night on bases in both Cape May New Jersey and Virginia.  He was a proud veteran who always boasted that the United States never lost any "coast" while he served.

Allen grew up in and around the movie theaters of South Jersey where his father, a projectionist, often took him along to watch the show and learn the trade.  He worked as an usher, a projectionist, operated his own art theater, and collected classic films all throughout his adult life.  He shared this passion with all by inviting friends and family to his home for a movie showing, delivering lectures throughout the state of New Jersey on all topics linked to the movie industry, and authoring his book South Jersey Movie Houses .  It is difficult to watch a classic movie without thinking of Allen.

After his retirement in 2002, Allen enjoyed many trips to Italy, especially to Rome which was his favorite city.  He enjoyed time spent in Townsends Inlet, NJ, especially in the off season, winter trips to Singer Island, Florida, and many priceless days spent with his granddaughters.  He enjoyed life to the fullest and truly believed that it was always 5 o'clock somewhere and expressed appreciation for the United States maintaining good diplomacy with Scotland.

Allen is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Maryann, his son David (Heidi), daughter Debbie Harris (Rob), granddaughters Ella and Molly, and his sister Carole Schuller (David).  He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Diane Borrello (Dominick), brother-in-law Dan Tursi, nieces and nephew Danielle, Rebecca, Michael and their loving families.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 21 ^st at the Alloway Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. followed by a service.
