On October 21, 2017, age 93, (nee Siegfried) of Pennsauken, NJ. She was predeceased by her husband Charlie. She was the mother of Chuck (Nancy) Merkh of Turnersville, NJ, Janet Merkh Evancho (George) of Lewes, DE, and Bob (Kathy) Merkh of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. She is survived by her grandchildren Michele (Jake) Lovera, Jeanette (Joe) Comito, Katelin Merkh (fiancée Luke), Megan (Mike) Beal, Kelsey Evancho, Kim (Greg) Yurcisin, Scott Evancho (deceased), Kelli (David) Lippincott, Brian (Lisa) Evancho, Bob Langston Merkh (Stacy) and Michael (Sarah) Merkh. Her great grandchildren include Isabella Lovera, Gianna Comito, Colin, Kylie and Caitlyn Yurcisin, Hunter and Zack Lippincott, Layla, Luke and Wyatt Merkh, Michael Merkh, River and Jackson Evancho and Cody Obler. Helen was the daughter of the late John D. and Flora Elizabeth Siegfried. She was predeceased by her siblings Betty, Marguerite, Ruth, Mary, Jack, Joe, Frank and Bill. Her brother Bob (Dorothy) lives in Claymont, DE. Helen was a homemaker and used her budgeting skills to ensure her family had a comfortable life. She was a devout Catholic who was always willing to offer prayers for those in distress. She was exceptionally kind and caring and would check in on neighbors, family and friends, often helping them to clean their house, snow blow their sidewalks, or make a meal for them. Helen was friends with our Cedar Avenue neighbors, and many of them got to enjoy her exceptional baking, especially her Hall of Fame pound cake! She was an athlete who played field hockey well into her 30's and was an accomplished figure skater. Helen enjoyed attending her children's sporting activities and was a Phillies and A's fan. She loved to crochet and made afghans for each of her grandchildren. Helen cherished her time with Charlie in Long Beach Island. She loved the beach, spending time with her LBI friends, and liked preparing the fish that Charlie would catch off the surf. Her other love was the Pocono Mountain house in Robin Hood Lakes where she enjoyed sledding, swimming, hiking and family poker games. Helen was a great mother, grandmother, aunt and neighbor. She organized the epic Siegfried family picnics at our house every Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor day. All her brothers, sisters, and cousins will always treasure those get togethers! Our family was blessed to have Ganna, our live in caregiver, who provided both dad and mom with the most exceptional loving care over the last 7 years. She is family to us and we are eternally grateful to her for all she has done for our family. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Helen's family on Saturday November 11, 2017 from 10:00-11:30 AM in the Alloway Funeral Home 315 E. Maple Avenue Merchantville, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you reach out to your loved ones, your friends, a neighbor in need ... let them know that you are there and you care.
