Born August 27, 1931 in Camden, New Jersey, son of the late Michael Smith and Josephine Kilgallon Smith passed away, March 20, 2021.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Mary Mulligan Smith and his life treasures Diane Looper, Phoenix, Arizona, Maura Lee Berney (Mike) Dallas, Texas, sons Brian (Tara), Hendersonville, Tennessee, James (Cari), Parker, Colorado and son Brendan, Philadelphia , Pennsylvania.
He was predeceased by his son Sean Owen and brother Thomas Smith. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Paul, Joseph, and Braeden Looper, Madison and Trey Berney, Kirstin Godat (Holden), Savannah, Jackson and Alexis Smith, Connor, Collin and Brigid Smith. In addition, he is survived by sisters and brothers in laws Margaret and Paddy McIntyre, Kathleen and Bernard Gallagher, Teresa Mulligan, Father Thomas Mulligan, Gerard and Brid Mulligan and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Jim served honorably in the U.S. Army. He attended Pearce Business College, Philadelphia, PA, and Tulsa Community College.
Jim retired from American Airlines after 35 years. Jim would often say "American Airlines was very good to me." Co-workers and friends often replied that Jim was very good to AA. Jim had various management positions in Philadelphia, Washington and Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul's and Martin Memorial Hospital.
An annual visitor to County Mayo, Ireland former home of his wife Mary as well as his paternal and maternal Grandfathers. Jim enjoyed researching heritage and meeting distant relatives. Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of All County Funeral Home, Stuart, Florida. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Hobe Sound, Florida on March 24, 2021 at 1 p.m. Viewing will be one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be Saturday at 11:00 AM in Calvary Chapel Mausoleum, Cherry Hill, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers please kindly consider a donation to Treasure Coast Hospice or St. Vincent De Paul.
