On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Robert Charles Asay of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, passed away at home after a long illness. He joins many of his baseball heroes - and the "bums" he loved to hate - from nearly a century of Philadelphia Phillies eras, including his favorite Whiz Kids.

Cementing his love of the game in the early 1950s, Bob pitched for a short stint in a semi-pro baseball league. He passed his final weeks at home with the boys of summer on the flat screen. It didn't matter whether it was his hometown favorites at the Bank or a college game out west, he simply embraced the game from a time when it was still America's pastime.

Growing up in Wrightstown, New Jersey to parents Tom and Ada, Bob eventually found his way to Temple University where he met the love of his life, Phyllis, on a blind date. Fewer than six months later, they married in January 1964, starting a run of 62 years together. With the exception of a few years in Ventnor, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco, the two spent their entire adult lives in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

The 90-year-old is survived by his wife, Phyllis (née Cohen) Asay, his sons, Jeffrey Asay (Jessica Merron) and Gregory Asay (Holly Friel), and grandchildren Dmitri, Viktoria, and Kahlo, whom he deeply cherished with all his heart.
