It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Russell Barry Shirley, who departed this life on November 30, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on May 5, 1939, in Edison, New Jersey, Russell grew into a man of sincerity, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. He was a proud graduate of Highland Park High School, where he began shaping the character and work ethic that
would define him throughout his life. Russell dedicated 44 years of loyal service as a maintenance mechanic at Stauffer Chemical Company
in Edison, earning the respect of his coworkers with his dependability, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic. He took great pride in his work and developed many lifelong friendships during his decades of service.
To his family, friends, and neighbors, Russell was affectionately known as "The Mayor." Always ready for a conversation, he had a gift for connecting with people wherever he went. Whether standing in his yard, visiting local shops, or attending family gatherings, Russell could be found talking, laughing, and brightening the day of anyone nearby. His warmth and easygoing nature made him beloved by all who knew him.
Russell was also a passionate sports fan. He loyally cheered for the Washington Redskins, and he was especially proud of his beloved Boston Red Sox, celebrating every victory and standing by them through every season.
For 65 wonderful years, Russell shared a loving and enduring marriage with his wife, Margaret Nancy Shirley. Their partnership was one of deep devotion, resilience, and unwavering companionship. He was a devoted father to two sons: - Russell Shirley and his wife Wanda Shirley of East Brunswick - Kenneth Shirley of North Carolina. He was blessed with four grandchildren: - Dan Shirley and his wife Lauren - Matthew Shirley and his wife Cassidy - Joseph Tomaszewski - Ryan Shirley. He found immense joy in his great-granddaughter, Teagan Shirley.
Russell is predeceased by his father Daniel Shirley, his mother Sadie Shirley, his brother Nelson J. Shirley, and his grandson Joseph Tomaszewski. He now joins them in peaceful rest.
Russell will forever be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his love of conversation, and his deep devotion to his family. His presence filled every room, his laughter was unmistakable, and his warmth touched countless lives.
A celebration of Russell's life is planned for the near future, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.  May Russell Barry Shirley rest in eternal peace. Memorial will be in March 2026
